On-campus workshop
Principals Brenda Foster and Domenica Genovese will come to your campus for a half-day, hands-on workshop. We will provide a clear-eyed appraisal of your magazine’s current position, inspire innovation, and offer suggestions to create more powerful design and editorial that reflect your strategic goals and audience needs.
Who should attend?
Retreat attendees typically include editorial and design staff members, representatives from institutional advancement, and key alumni leaders.
During the workshop, we will:
- analyze your magazine based on findings from GCF’s study of 100 online college magazines.
- compare your magazine to other peer institution magazines.
- review existing strengths and weaknesses of your magazine and make recommendations for stronger editorial and design elements. Some recommendations will be presented in a “before and after” design format to help you visualize new possibilities.
- inspire your staff to think about the magazine in fresh, innovative ways.
- describe the similarities and differences in the messaging used to meet alumni interests.
- participate in a hands-on needs assessment exercise. We will show you how to apply the GCF Matrix© to understand how your magazine is meeting the needs of existing readers, and how it can meet new needs of existing readers and new needs of new readers.
- review recommendations for redesign of print and electronic versions of the magazine.
- Q&A with attendees.
